Arch and ball problems tend to develop from improper footwear, injury and overuse.  Weight gain is another commonly associated factor in these conditions. For conservative treatments, see if custom-made orthotics can help solve foot pain caused by these conditions.

Arch and Ball of the Foot

Foot pain in children is less common since their feet are pliable and resistant to the development of foot conditions.  However, there are some concerns that are often associated with childhood development.  While many of the problems may resolve without treatment, it is important to watch the development of the child’s feet.

There are a plethora of different foot and ankle injuries that can affect the human body at any stage in life.  The following conditions are the most commonly acquired foot problems caused by injury or accidents. Many of these can be prevented by following a basic foot care routine every day.

Common Foot and Ankle Injuries

Foot deformities tend to develop as a result of hereditary foot structures.  They are commonly aggravated by wearing ill-fitting shoes.

Deformities

Diabetics are at exceptional risk for foot conditions due to the reduction in blood flow to the feet.  Neuropathy, a loss of sensation in the feet, also increases the danger since foot problems may not be detected as they develop.

Diabetes and Circulatory Disease

The feet are often the first place that symptoms appear for certain foot diseases, such as arthritis and cancer.

Diseases of the Foot

  • Arthritis (Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis)
  • Cancer
  • Charcot Foot
  • Gout
  • Raynaud’s Disease

Heel Pain, while not associated with many serious conditions, can decrease the day to day quality of life.  Heel pain, when the feet are at rest, is not normal and is indicative of a more serious problem.

Many nail and skin conditions are associated with the invasion of foreign bodies such as fungus or bacterial infections.  Excessively dry or moist environments may also facilitate the development of skin conditions.

Nail and Skin Problems

The most commonly associated symptoms of nerve pain are burning or stabbing pains in the affected area.  Due to the nature of nerve disorders, this pain is often occurs at irregular intervals, during rest and activity.

Over half of the bones in your foot form the toes.  They help to provide balance and mobility when standing or moving.  Many toe problems are the result of overuse, improper footwear, and trauma to the foot.
